single fold inside right: DENBIGHSHIRE 1915 HUSSARS crest above WITH BEST WISHES FOR CHRISTMAS AND THE NEW YEAR -- FROM with 61ST MEDIUM REGIMENT R.A. (DENBIGHSHIRE YEOMANRY) T.A. B.A.O.R. CHRISTMAS, 1945 below TAN as the artist was in the war and spent some time drawing and developing images for cards in his spare time for the regiment. His complete name was Jack A Tanner. He served with the 61st Medium Regt Royal Artillery through the war and saw action in France, Netherlands and Germany where he was commissioned to do this piece at the end of 1945. He carried on doing Christmas cards through his life albeit privately printed, usually of some snowy Church scene...he and his grandson Stephen were very close and each year he always did a single comical version just for him...painting a similar jokey Father Christmas scene over the top of the otherwise serious Christmas scene. They included father Christmas arrested for being drunk, the sleigh crash landing on the church roof, the reindeer on strike for higher wages...This tradition started with the 1945 Father Christmas in the Jeep card that is listed here. Info gratefully provided by his daughter Sue Law and grandson Stephen Law.
